The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Lagos (UNILAG), Professor Oluwatoyin Ogundipe, has been removed as we earlier reported.
In a statement made by the council who removed Toyin Ogundipe, He was found guilty of gross misconduct, financial recklessness, and abuse of office.
“The general public is hereby notified that at an emergency meeting held on Wednesday 12 August 2020 and in accordance with the statutory power vested in it by law, the Governing Council of the University of Lagos removed Prof. Oluwatoyin T. Ogundipe, FAS from office as Vice Chancellor of the University with immediate effect.“, The statement read.
They added, “The decision was based on the Council’s investigation of serious acts of wrongdoing, gross misconduct, financial recklessness, and abuse of office against Professor Oluwatoyin T. Ogundipe“
Professor Oluwatoyin Ogundipe was reportedly not allowed to defend himself during the proceedings as members of the University’s Senate have vowed to resist the move to unseat Ogundipe. “The University of Lagos regulation has been stepped on and ridiculed”, Senate representative, Prof. Bola Oboh said.
Professor Oluwatoyin began his academic career at the UNILAG as a lecturer where he rose to the rank of professor of Botany in 2002. He was appointed as the vice chancellor of the University of Lagos in November 2017.
