Bruno Mars Talking To The Moon

American singer-songwriter Bruno Mars‘ first studio album, Doo-Wops & Hooligans, contains the song “Talking to the Moon” (2010). The song was first made public as the last track on Mars’s debut extended play, It’s Better If You Don’t Understand (2010).

Bruno Mars talking to the moon talks about a lost love that has now gone. It also talks about loneliness, loss, and hope.

As of 2022, the video of the song has gotten over 131 billion views.

When asked about the lyrical content, Bruno said, “[he] just [writes] songs that [he] strongly believe in and that are coming from inside. There’s no tricks. It’s honesty with big melodies. And [he is] singing the s*** out of them.”

Mars added that he thought he should write a song for himself after composing and producing music for other artists.

“We only had the first verse and the horns. We then had three different bridges and we spent a lot of time trying to find out which one was the best. Jeff Bhasker is a fantastic musician, and he helped write that track. I think we tried to arrange and produce this in four different ways, mostly trying to figure out what kind of drums to put on.” he said.

Albert Winkler, Mars, Philip Lawrence, Adam Levine, Bhasker, and Philip Lawrence all contributed to the song “Talking to the Moon,” which was co-produced by Bhasker.

At Levcon Studios in California, Levine was in charge of engineering the song as well as playing and recording all of the instruments on the track with Mars. Manny Marroquin mixed the music at Larrabee Sound Studios in Los Angeles with assistance from Christian Plata and Erik Madrid. At Marcussen Mastering in Hollywood, California, Stephen Marcussen performed the mastering.

Bruno Mars Talking To The Moon LYRICS

[Verse 1]
I know you're somewhere
Out there
Somewhere far away
I want you back
I want you back
My neighbors think I'm crazy
But they don't understand
You're all I had
You're all I had

[Pre-chorus]
At night when the stars
Light up my room
I sit by myself

[Chorus]
Talking to the moon
Try’na get to you
In hopes you're on the
Other side
Talking to me too
Or am I a fool
Who sits alone
Talking to the moon

[Verse 2]
I'm feelin’ like I'm famous
The talk of the town
They say I've gone mad
Yeah I've gone mad
But they don't know
What I know
Cuz when the sun
Goes down
Someone’s talkin’ back
Yeah they're talkin’ back

[Pre-chorus]
At night when the stars
Light up my room
I sit by myself

[Chorus]
Talking to the moon
Try’na get to you
In hopes you're on the
Other side
Talking to me too
Or am I a fool
Who sits alone
Talking to the moon

[Bridge]
Do you ever hear me callin’
Cuz every night I'm talkin’
To the moon...

[Chorus]
Still try’na get to you
In hopes you're on the
Other side
Talking to me too
Or am I a fool
Who sits alone
Talking to the moon

[Outro]
I know you're somewhere
Out there
Somewhere far away
