On November 28, 1994, Dahmer left his cell to perform his assigned work detail. Jesse Anderson and Christopher Scarver, two other inmates, accompanied him. For about 20 minutes, the trio was left unsupervised in the prison gym showers. It was around 8:10 a.m. According to New York Times.

Dahmer was found on the floor of the gym’s restrooms with severe head wounds; he had been severely bludgeoned about the head and face with a 20-inch (51-centimeter) metal bar.

During the assault, his head had also been repeatedly struck against the wall.

Dahmer was still alive when he was taken to a nearby hospital, but he was pronounced dead an hour later.

Anderson had been beaten with the same instrument and died two days later due to his injuries.

Scarver, serving a life sentence for a murder committed in 1990, told authorities that he first attacked Dahmer with the metal bar while he was cleaning a staff locker room, then attacked Anderson while he was cleaning an inmate locker room.

Scarver claims that Dahmer did not yell or make any noise while being attacked.

Scarver, who was thought to be schizophrenic, returned to his cell immediately after attacking both men and informed a prison guard: “God told me to do it. Jesse Anderson and Jeffrey Dahmer are dead.” According to Star News.

Scarver was adamant that he had not planned the attacks ahead of time, despite later admitting to investigators that he had hidden the 20-inch iron bar used to kill both men in his clothing shortly before the killings.

On May 15, 1995, Scarver was sentenced to two additional terms of life imprisonment for the murders of Dahmer and Anderson. According to Daily News.

Dahmer had stated in his will that he did not want any services and that he wished to be cremated.
