A woman was arrested Monday afternoon on the North Side of Chicago for allegedly stealing a bag of money outside a Chase Bank.

Police said Sharon Carabine-Deirberger, 60, stole a bag containing an unknown amount of cash from a Brinks armored truck in the 5700 block of North Broadway around 12:27 p.m.

Carabine-Deirberger then fled the scene but was apprehended by Chicago police in the 1100 block of West Granville Avenue, about a mile north of the crime scene.

According to the police, a quick-thinking citizen called the police after witnessing the crime.

The money bag was recovered, and Carabine-Deirberger was charged with one count of theft greater than $100,000, according to police.

The bag, according to reports, contained $200,000 in cash.

When the first 911 call came in, police were told to look for two males. The suspect’s description, however, quickly changed.

According to a Chase Bank spokesperson, no employees were injured, but the building would be closed for the rest of the day as a precaution.

Carabine-Deirberger, of Blue Island, is due in bond court on Tuesday.
