Laquan Jernigan, 20, shot dead days after birthday in Austin neighborhood, Chicago

A young boy has been shot dead in the Austin neighborhood, Chicago yesterday.

The 20-year-old boy was identified as Laquan Jernigan. He was shot to death in the 4800 block of West Crystal, Austin neighborhood, West Side.

Jernigan was standing in the 4800 block of West Crystal Street when someone in a passing car fired shots about 4:20 p.m., Chicago police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office said.

He was struck in the chest and driven to West Suburban Medical Center where he died, police said. Jernigan lived in the Galewood neighborhood.

This is coming 6 days after Jernigan celebrated his 20th birthday. “Happy Birthday to my Baby Boy Laquan today is your 20th BDay!! I pray that you have that SPECIAL day you planned and You dream become a reality !! YOU ARE One In A Million! Love You Son Son QSAV” His mother wrote on his birthday.

Niecy Backgroundcheck, Jernigan mother went on Facebook to mourn the death of his son. “My baby boy Laquan Jernigan was shot and killed on Chicago streets yesterday,” She wrote.

“My heart is scattered and hurt beyond repair. Just send a sincere prayer up for me. THAT WAS MY BABY!!!”.

However, some people took out time to console the sad mother. “I’m so sorry praying for you and your family during this time.” One said. Another said, “My deepest condolences to you and your family”. Another lady said. “Sis..I’m so sorry this happened to you..sending my sincere condolences.

Police reported no arrests.
